Overview

ARC Environmental was engaged directly by Development Victoria to provide a program of investigation and remediation of soils containing asbestos at site with future plans for residential redevelopment.

Scope

Challenge

An initial review was undertaken to provide remediation options for the impacted soils considering the sensitive site use, the reputational risk to JV partners including Development Victoria & Melbourne Water, and the cost benefit analysis of remediation options. Further assessment of the site was undertaken to inform the remediation program. After review of options, the remediation program involved the abatement of asbestos from soils with progressive clearance of impacted areas following remediation activities under strict asbestos working conditions. The works proceeded under an approved Asbestos Removal Plan with continuous air monitoring.

Outcome

Upon finalisation of the remediation approach of asbestos abatement, ARC Environmental was engaged as the Principal's Consultant to review the Licensed Asbestos Removalist Contractor (LARC) costs for the remediation. The results of this review reduced the total costs by >$3 Million with ARC Environmental guiding the project works team to coordinate remediation and disposal at reasonable market rates.
